The Irish Ice Hockey Association would like to invite applications for the posts of IIHL League Chairman and IIHA Referee in Chief.

The Irish Ice Hockey Association would like to invite applications for the posts of IIHL League Chairman and IIHA Referee in Chief.
Both positions will become vacant with the commencement of Season 2009/2010. Applications and Curriculum Vitae should be sent by email to executive@iiha.org prior to the closing date of 31/7/2009 so that the winning candidates may be introduced at the Annual General Meeting. Both positions are voluntary and the work entailed can be quite demanding. Fluency in English will be one of the main criteria on which the posts will be allocated, but a second language would be a bonus.

Candidates for the R.I.C. job will require a good working knowledge of the Rules and Regulations of the game as set out in the 2006 -2010 IIHF Official Rule Book, and would ideally have good skating ability, and experience officiating here or abroad. The successful Candidate will be responsible for the discipline standards of both the IIHL and the IIHL RD, the allocation of on-ice officials throughout the season, their further education, and recognition by the IIHF, and he/she will be required to assist the Discipline Committee by providing documentation and guidance when called upon.

The successful candidate for the post of League Chairman will be involved in the process of arranging fixtures, ensuring the smooth running of the leagues, liasing with the ice providers, the teams, the players and the executive. A good working relationship with the R.I.C. would be essential and diplomacy, tact and a sense of justice without fear or favour will be required as you will be called upon to be a final arbiter on many occasions.

Author: IIHA

IIHF World U18 Championship Divisioin III B, Erzurum, Turkey.

The U18 Irish National Team made history today beating Bulgaria for the second time in a week this time even more convincingly by six goals to three in the decider for the Bronze Medal Position. Having been absent from international competition at this age level for the last 10 years this success speaks volumes about the progress made in the sport here in the last few years.

Despite the fact that seven of the squad only took up the sport two years ago with the opening of the Dundalk Ice Dome, and playing against nations that have development programmes in operation for decades Belfast's Colin Grimason scored another hat trick today, and Dundalk Boys Rian Larkin bagged a brace and Aidan Morris picked up the spare.

The team is comprised of the best young players from the whole island of Ireland and only five of the panel of twenty will be too old to compete again next year.

A much more disciplined game from the Irish showed just what they were capable of, as in their previous game they managed to concede 44 minutes in penalties in the pressure cooker atmosphere of a tie with the home nation, Turkey, to decide who would go on to the Gold /Silver game and who would risk everything in the Bronze / Wooden Spoon game.

We expect our Bronze Warriors to arrive home tomorrow having traveled through the night, on the Turkish Airlines Flight from Istanbul that touches down at 10:20 am.

High praise is due to Coach Sean Dooley and his Assistant Coach Kenny Redmond, not forgetting General manager Mick Cummins who can now take a well earned breather after months of hard work and planning.

It is heartening to consider just what can be achieved when all parts of this island come together in common purpose rather than the divisions that have been brought into sharper focus of late.

Find out more on www.iiha.org or discover the details of the games on www.iihf.com by clicking on the link marked
U18 Div.IIIB in Turkey.

Author: Mick Higgins

IIHF World U18 Championship Division III B in Erzurum, Turkey.

In a thrilling 5-4 last minute, last gasp victory against Bulgaria, Team Ireland U18's recorded a wonderful maiden victory in Erzurum, Turkey today, having been absent from international competition at this level for 10 years.

Despite the fact that seven of the squad only took up the sport two years ago with the opening of the Dundalk Ice Dome, and playing against nations that have development programmes in operation for decades they came back from a 4-1 deficit to score the game winning goal with just 33 seconds remaining on the clock.

The team is comprised of the best young players from the whole island of Ireland and only five of the panel of twenty will be too old to compete again next year. A hat trick from Belfast's Colin Grimason which included the winner plus goals from Niall McEvoy of the Flyers I.H.C., and Dundalk's Aidan Morris secured the historic win.

Having played all three of the other teams Team Ireland are in the bronze medal position and tomorrow meet hosts Turkey in a repeat of a hugely intimidating opening game where the crowd lived up to their renowned reputation for noisy, boisterous and fanatical support of their own team. Victory in this game could see Team Ireland compete on Sunday to decide the destination of the gold and silver medals.

Find out more on www.iiha.org or follow the games live on www.iihf.com by clicking on the link marked U18 Div.IIIB in Turkey.

Author: Mick Higgins
