IIHL & IIHL Recreational Division

The opening weekend of the 2008/2009 Irish Ice Hockey League season opened with 6 games. On Saturday night the Dundalk Bulls Ladies hosted the Drogheda Ice Breakers 1 at 5:30 p.m. to kick start the season and the IIHL Recreational Division. The Ice Breakers 1 came out the victors by a score of 22-0. Following that, the Dublin Wolves got the IIHL under way with a game against the vastly improved Hawks. The Wolves were playing their first IIHL game having won the IIHL Development Division last season. They did themselves proud despite losing 12-2 to an extremely impressive Hawks team.

On Sunday, four games were scheduled with the first ever IIHL game taking place in Dundonald, Belfast. The Tesco Belfast Giants hosted the Flyers I.H.C. with the Giants coming out on top with a 7-5 victory. While down in Dundalk, IIHL Recreational Division games were sheduled to take to place. Firstly, the Hawks hosted the Kilkenny City Storm with the Hawks edging the win with a final scoreline of 2-1. The 2nd game of the day was supposed to be the Dundalk Bulls hosting the Belfast Bruins. However, the Bruins unfortunately forfeited the game and the points to the Bulls. A game did take place though as the Bulls took on a mixture of Hawks and Storm players in what was an enjoyable match by all. The final game of the evening was the Drogheda Ice Breakers 2 versus the Flyers I.H.C. The Flyers came out victors with an impressive 3-0 win.

This weekend sees 5 games take place with double headers in the Dundalk Ice Dome scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m. the Hawks 2 take on the Drogheda Ice Breakers 1 in the IIHL Recreational Division and the Dublin Rams host the Latvian Hawks at 7:15 p.m. On Sunday, the Kilkenny City Storm take on the Dundalk Bulls at 3:15 p.m. in the IIHL Recreational Division.
