Belfast City Bruins v Flyers I.H.C. - Game Report 21.10.2007

Period 1

The first period was lopsided in the scoring department with 4 unanswered goals by the Bruins. Accurate shooting propelled the Bruins to a commanding lead going into the second period. #5 Peter McCarter scored the first two Bruin goals. #9 Michael Wandschura chipped in a very impressive breakaway goal with an assist going to Assistant Captain Gareth Martin. The final goal of the period came from Jonny Keaney again assisted by #13 Gareth Martin with 12:43 of the clock in the period. The Flyers stepped up their game to hold off the Bruins attack for the remainder of the period.

Period 2

Early in the second period the Bruins continued to dominate the scoring with a beautiful breakaway goal by #8 Craig Foulis, assisted by #18 Terence Craig. Then 3 minutes into the period what seemed to be another goal by #14 Trevor Kennedy, was disallowed due to interference. The Flyers scoring drought was ended by an unassisted goal by #9 Emile Kalir unassisted. Interference was called again on the Bruins, this time it was #5 Peter McCarter who picked up the penalty. The Flyers stepped up their game on both ends of the ice in the second period. Flyers net minder Dermot Karney did an excellent job of keeping the Bruins to just one goal in the period despite instances where it looked more like target practice than a hockey game.

Period 3

Flyers opened the scoring in the third period with a goal by #38 Patrick McCabe assisted by #40 Stepehen Cooper. That's the way the scoring stayed until 17:40 into the period when Steven Ewan scored assisted by #11 David Gibson for the Bruins final goal of the evening. There was one more near miss when Flyers #38 Patrick McCabe deflected one off the left upright.

The Flyers really solidified themselves in the final two periods, unfortunately they could not make up for their lackluster performance in the game's opening period. The final score Bruins 7 - Flyers 2
